Mine That Bird To Run At Preakness
Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird will run at Old Hilltop.

Mine That Bird’s trainer, Bennie “Chip” Woolley Jr., informed the Maryland Jockey Club Monday the horse would run in the Preakness Stakes May 16 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

“It is good for the sport,” Woolley said in a statement. “You cannot have a Triple Crown winner without having the Derby winner in the Preakness. That played into our decision but the horse looks super.”

The $1 million Preakness Stakes is the second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown.

Mine That Bird was a 50-1 longshot to win the Kentucky Derby Saturday and stunned a crowd of nearly 154,000 people at Churchill Downs in Louisville when it pulled away in the final stretch for the victory.

The horse is expected to leave Louisville May 11 or 12 by van and travel to Baltimore for the 134th running of the Preakness.
