World Series of Poker Coming To Europe
by Karl Yu

Trivia Question: Who won the 2007 World Series of Poker’s No Limit Texas Hold’em Main Event?

If you answered Jerry Yang, you would only receive a half mark.

With the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas a largely successful venture, Harrah’s Entertainment—WSOP rights holders—has its eyes set on expanding the tournament.

Come September, The World Series of Poker will be packing up its chips and buttons and taking a flight across the Atlantic Ocean to England.

“This is the first time bracelet events will be awarded outside of Las Vegas,” explained WSOP commish Jeffery Pollack in a release.

“[It] will have a unique identity, style and flair, but will remain true to the 38-year tradition and heritage of the WSOP.”

The Inaugural World Series of Poker Europe will take place in a trio of London Clubs International casinos—Fifty, The Casino at the Empire and the Sportsman—with the Final Table taking place at the Empire.

The European version won’t be as grand in scope as the one in Vegas with only three events on the sked—H.O.R.S.E., Pot Limit Omaha and the grand daddy of the tournament, Main Event No-Limit Texas Hold'em.

Similar to the buy-in for the Vegas event, the entry fee for London’s NL Texas Hold’em tourney is £10,000 and it will have 750 players duking it out for £7.5 million in total prize money.

Players can register for the H.O.R.S.E. AND Omaha events up until 30 minutes before the tournament’s start and registration for the Main Event ends on Sunday, September 9.

The regular avenues into the tournament are there including satellite tournaments and regular registration.

A number of high profile players have already signed up including Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson and Jamie Gold.
